Leashes? We don't need no stinkin' leashes
Kaili, center, keeps an eye on Marley as they run free Wednesday at the recently relocated Norm and Nellie Byrd Off-Leash Dog Park at Sherman Park on the Yakima Greenway. Brandt Gibbons and Helene Boitano watch. The park, where dogs can be let off their leashes, was originally located further north on the Greenway but was moved to its present location about six months ago. The park will be officially rededicated Saturday in a celebration from noon-3 p.m. After the former leash-free park near the Yakima River was destroyed by flooding last year, Greenway officials used the opportunity to move the park south to the Sherman Park location. Because the move was flood-related, part of the cost was paid for by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the rest by the Greenway, according to Greenway executive director Al Brown. The park is fenced and includes picnic tables, benches and a footbridge over a creek in the dog park.
