YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima police arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of stabbing another man in the chest several times Sunday night.
The man is in Yakima County Jail on charges of second-degree attempted murder and possessing a dangerous weapon. Bail is set for $1.5 million.
The two men were fighting in the 1200 block of MacLaren Street when the suspect stabbed the victim, according to a Yakima Police Department news release.
Several witnesses said the suspect made verbal threats to kill the victim before stabbing him with a switch-blade knife, officials said. Police found the victim with two stab wounds in his chest. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for a collapsed lung.
The suspect fled the scene on foot. Witnesses guided police to the suspect's location in the 700 block of 12th Avenue, where he was arrested.
The suspect and the victim were roommates, according to a suspect information report found in court records. The suspect was scheduled for a preliminary appearance Monday, but it was delayed because he was ill.
