YAKIMA, Wash. —State road officials said Thursday they hope to have Cayuse Pass open by the end of the month and Chinook Pass open by late May.

State Route 410 over 4,675-foot Cayuse Pass originally was slated to open Thursday, but late snowstorms scuttled that plan, according to the state Department of Transportation.

A road crew, using a bulldozer, excavator and two snowblowers, had about six miles left to clear on Thursday.

When that job is done, they’ll head to 5,430-foot Chinook Pass,  and clear that part of SR-410. Transportation officials hope to have that route open by May 28.
