UNION GAP -- Businesses thinking of erecting billboards within the city of Union Gap may be out of luck.
In the next two to three months, the City Council will vote on a proposal banning billboards along Valley Mall Boulevard. Existing billboards would not be affected.
Mayor Jim Lemon said he and fellow council members believe billboards are distracting and unappealing. A couple huge billboards have recently been installed along the street, but they're within Yakima city limits, Lemon said.
By changing the law, Lemon said he and council members intend to prevent similar billboards from popping up in their city. To Lemon's knowledge, no such billboard requests are pending.
