YAKIMA, Wash. -- Two protest rallies are planned for The Tower on Yakima Avenue, where Sen. Patty Murray has an office.

On Saturday, a rally against health care reform and immigration reform will be held in front of the building at Third Street and Yakima Avenue. It runs from 1 to 3 p.m. and is sponsored by a coalition of groups, headed by the Tea Party of Yakima.

It will be the second rally in as many days. On Thursday, an anti-health-care reform rally hosted by the same groups is planned at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Tower to protest against Murray’s support for the legislation.

Steve Edwards of the 9/12 Project in Yakima said organizers decided to add an anti-amnesty message on Saturday to counter a march this Sunday in Washington, D.C., by immigrant advocates.

“People are encouraged to bring flags, signs and most importantly their voice,” said Edwards.

Immigration reform advocates say more than 50,000 people from across the country will gather Sunday on the national Mall to demand what organizers say was a Democratic promise back in 2008 to pursue comprehensive immigration reform.
