Herman L. Crain
Herman Lewis Crain, 100, of Selah died Monday at Riverview Manor. Mr. Crain was born in Oklahoma and served in the Armed Forces during World War II. He had lived in the Yakima Valley for 50 years, and he worked as a carpenter.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Crain of Mattawa and Jeff Crain of Selah; a daughter, Herma Powell of Naches; a sister, Joella Dumas of Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Eric N. Faith
Eric Nolan Faith, 50, of Selah died Friday at home. Mr. Faith was born in Corona, Calif., and lived in Loma Linda, Calif., and Vacaville, Calif., before moving to Yakima in 1978. He worked the past 20 years as an electrical contractor.
Survivors include his father, Dr. William Faith of Selah; and his sister, Kristina Hinton of Yakima.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Yakima Seventh-day Adventist Church, 507 N. 35th Ave. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
Jay A. Moore
Jay Albert Moore, 79, of Prosser died Friday at Prosser Memorial Hospital. Mr. Moore was born and raised in Pratt, Kan. The family moved to San Jose, Calif., where he worked as a machinist, a career that lasted 50 years. After retiring he moved to Kalama, Wash., in 1989, and then to Prosser in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona Moore of Prosser; a daughter, Kathy Loar of Prosser; a son, Phillip Moore of Taiwan; a sister, Becky Galliato of Mountain View, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Prosser First Presbyterian Church.
Jerry P. Hancock Jr.
Jerry Paul Hancock Jr., 49, of Boardman, Ore., died Friday at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. Mr. Hancock was born in Prosser and raised in the Columbia Basin. The family moved to South Dakota, where he worked with his father on a dairy farm and later for John Morrell Meat Co. In 1988 he moved to Prosser and then in 1989 to Boardman, where he worked for Hermiston Foods.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Hancock of Boardman; and four sisters, Robin Kuemper of Hermiston, Ore., Ronda Stohr of Fargo, N.D., Stacey Miller of Boardman and Sarah Finstad of Bradley, S.D.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Prosser Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home. Concluding services and burial will follow in Prosser Cemetery.
Policarpia Hernandez Ramos
Policarpia Hernandez Ramos, 78, of Toppenish died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ramos was born in Uvadale, Texas. She worked as a Herald-Republic newspaper carrier in Toppenish for over 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Jose Eriberto Ramos of Union Gap and Oscar Ramos of Yakima; a daughter, Hope Anaya of Toppenish; two brothers, Roberto Hernandez of Texas and Eduardo Hernandez of California; a sister, Erlinda Coronado of Toppenish; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Per her wishes, private services will be held with interment in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
Rev. Robert L. Smith
The Rev. Robert Leroy Smith, 88, of Union Gap died Saturday at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. The Rev. Smith was born in Cheyenne Wells, Colo. He was founder and first pastor of Wapato Bible Baptist Church, which he pastored for 25 years. He was employed by the Wapato School District as maintenance manager for 25 years. He also served as the camp chaplain at Packwood Naco West Resort and Maple Grove Resort in Randall for 17 years.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Lee Smith of Union Gap and Mark Terry Smith of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Norma Briggs of Wapato; four brothers, George Smith of LaCenter, Wash., Ernest Smith and Lawrence Smith of Yakima and Ray Smith of Texas; four sisters, Vera Thirtyacre and Ruby Sartin of Yakima, Wanda Howard of Zillah and Betty Harmon of Brush Prairie, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 24 at First Baptist Church of Union Gap. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Olivia Tupling
Olivia Tupling, 89, of Yakima died Monday. Mrs. Tupling was born in Eureka, S.D. She worked for several years with Swift Meat Packing Co. before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, George Tupling; a daughter, Sharon Moore of Outlook; a sister, Otilla Tashjian of Yakima; a brother, Ben Meidinger of Phoenix; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in West Hills Memorial Park.
Robert M. Kinder
Robert M. Kinder, 88, of Yakima died Monday at Landmark Care Center. Mr. Kinder was born in Jaroso, Colo., and served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Colville, Wash., from 1940 until 1959, when he moved to Yakima. He was a motel broker.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Kinder of Yakima; two sons, Ken Kinder of Richland and Dale Kinder of Phoenix; a daughter, Cheryl Kinder of Yakima; two brothers, Vester Kinder of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Max Kinder of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; two sisters, Bethine Henderson of Battle Ground, Wash., and Rowena MacIntosh of Kettle Falls, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
No formal services are planned in Yakima. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.
