YAKIMA, Wash. -- Angela Brown of Yakima, a 2007 graduate of West Valley High School, has been selected to sing the lead soprano role in the Washington State University spring opera production of "Orpheus in the Underworld."

Brown is a junior majoring in music. She will sing the role of Eurydice, the wife of Orpheus in the operetta written by Jacques Offenbach. The famous "Can-Can" was originally composed for this comical operetta.

She was recently awarded a $1,500 WSU School of Music Phase I scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year and won a $350 scholarship from the Washington Idaho Symphony Orchestra for winning their Young Artists Competition.
