YAKIMA, Wash. — A 22-year-old man was booked at the Yakima County jail Wednesday night on suspicion of first-degree murder in the gang-related shooting of a Yakima man last weekend.

The man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police stopped a Cadillac he was driving at Nob Hill Boulevard and Sixth Street.

Investigators say they believe he was the driver on the night of the shooting. He was driving a silver Cadillac when he was stopped; police said they recovered the white Cadillac linked to the shooting under a cover in the backyard of a home in the 1200 block of West Washington Avenue.

David R. Duarte, 40, was riding with his nephew when the nephew spotted some gang rivals and tried to leave the area, authorities said. But the other car pulled alongside near 16th and Washington avenues and a passenger opened fire, hitting Duarte multiple times.

The shooting suspect, Tomas Villegas, was arrested Tuesday, also on suspicion of first-degree murder.
