Property buyer is WinCo foods, not developer

I made an error Monday on my report of the purchase of more than nine acres designated for the Union Gap Promenade shopping center. http://www.yakima-herald.com/blogs/shop-talk/posts/developers-close-on-land-purchase-for-promenade

Turns out the purchaser of two parcels totaling 9.35 acres isn’t the center’s developer, White-Leasure Development Co. of Boise.

The owner of the property is actually WinCo Foods, http://www.wincofoods.com/ said John Hodkinson of Almon Commercial Real Estate, who represented White-Leasure in the transaction.

As I’ve reported in the past, WinCo has been working closely with White-Leasure through the land use process for the project, which will total 30 acres. http://www.yakima-herald.com/stories/2009/11/10/winco-to-try-again-this-time-in-union-gap

The land purchase provides yet another confirmation of the grocery store chain’s plans to give the Yakima Valley another chance.

In 2002, WinCo purchased the former Country Drive-In and adjoining property on Nob Hill Boulevard between 42nd and 44th avenues for more than $2.5 million for a 79,000-square-foot store. It put the property up for sale in 2003, after the company re-evaluated its development plans in the midst of what was then a proposed Walmart on 64th Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard.

In 2008, WinCo sold the Nob Hill Boulevard property for $2.96 million to Thompson Development, which converted the space into a new dental facility.

This blog entry is an update on an earlier blog that had incorrect information.
