SELAH, Wash. -- Authorities blame inattention for an accident along the Yakima Canyon that sent two people to the hospital Sunday afternoon.

Leonard J. Russell, 50, of Ellensburg, was turning left into the Sundown M. Ranch from northbound State Route 821 about 3:45 p.m. when his 2005 Toyota pickup truck was rear-ended by a 1997 Nissan Maxima, according to a news release from Washington State Patrol.

Both Russell and the other driver, Christi J. Stewart, 42, of Ellensburg, were wearing seat belts.

Russell was taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, where he was treated and released. Stewart was taken to Kittitas Valley Community Hospital, where hospital officials could not confirm her condition Sunday.
