Ian McFeron, the Seattle singer-songwriter playing the Yakima Sports Center on Feb. 27, is a familiar face around these parts.
A regular at the annual Yakima Folklife Festival and a recurring favorite at the Sports Center, McFeron and his band have earned their local fans with consistently engaging performances. Mixing folk with elements of indie-rock, they create a brand of Americana that can serve as buoyant background music or, given proper attention, near-profound emotional exploration.
In either case, The Ian McFeron Band's music is comfortable and consistent. That can read as faint praise, but it's meant in the best possible way. McFeron's sound is like that ragged sweatshirt you slip on at the end of each day, knowing it's going to feel just right.
Familiarity, in this band's case, is a blessing.
The show starts at 9 p.m. at the Sports Center, 214 E. Yakima Ave. Cover is $5.
