Fundraising pinochle card party Monday

Court Caruana No. 906 of the Catholic Daughters of America will hold its annual fundraising pinochle card party and salad luncheon at noon Monday at the Golden Villa Mobile Court recreation hall.

There will be a raffle and other games for those who don't play pinochle.

Everyone is welcome. The cost is $6 per person; it includes lunch, door prizes and game playing.

Lenten services at Peace Lutheran

Peace Lutheran Church will offer Lenten worship services at 6:45 p.m. each Wednesday during Lent. A soup and sandwich supper will precede the worship services at 6 p.m.

The services will run Feb. 24 and March 3, 10, 17 and 24.

'Fish Frydays' good for the sole

St. Joseph Marquette Catholic School will hold "Fish Frydays" during Lent (except on Good Friday). The dates are: Feb. 26, and March 5, 12, 19 and 26.

The cost is $8 for fish, fries and coleslaw, a beer or pop. Kids under 6 are free. There will also be a charge of $2 for additional beer and $1 for additional pop. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door.

NAACP celebrating gospel music

The Yakima County NAACP presents "The Evolution of Gospel Music from Then to Now" at 6 p.m. Friday at Englewood Christian Church.

The celebration is for the fifth annual NAACP Black History Month gospel concert. A unified mass choir composed of several local choirs and individual singers from Yakima-area churches will perform under the direction of Preston Jones.

Gospel jamboree scheduled for Mabton

Mabton Grace Brethren Church will hold its next Gospel Music Jamboree at 2-4 p.m. on Sunday,

Performing will be Sun Country from Yakima. The group plays country gospel music as well as country.

Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

Financial Peace University class offered

West Side Church is offering Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University class from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. each Wednesday beginning March 3 and running through May 26.

The classes teach principles of debt-free living and are open to everyone. A fee of $100 per family applies and includes all materials, plus lifetime membership to FPU.

Baron of Beef Dinner on Sunday

Bethel A.M.E. Church will hold the annual Baron of Beef Dinner at 1-4 p.m. on Sunday,

The cost is a $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The dinner is sponsored by The Mighty Men of Bethel.

Lenten lunches in Sunnyside

The women of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sunnyside are offering Lenten soup lunches each Wednesday from Feb. 24 through March 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..

The cost is $7 and includes soup, pie and a beverage. There will also be "take out" delivery within a three-mile radius of the church for five or more orders.

The soup menu is:

Feb. 24 -- Gourmet vegetable

March 3 -- Beef barley

March 10 -- Potato soup

March 17 -- Split pea and ham

March 24 -- Chicken noodle

Solar project presentation Sunday

Wesley United Methodist will host a presentation on developing a community solar project at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday.

Gary Nystedt, resource manager for the city of Ellensburg, will share Ellensburg's experience in setting up a community solar project in 2006. This project recently received a federal grant to expand the effort.

Child evangelism is the topic

Wiley Union Church will host featured speaker Ed Cavallo, director of the local branch of Child Evangelism Fellowship, at the 10:15 a.m. service Sunday.

CEF is a Bible-centered, worldwide organization whose purpose is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ.
