Union Gap man killed in Lower Valley accident

TOPPENISH, Wash. -- A 45-year-old Union Gap man died this morning after his pickup left a Lower Valley road and crashed into a ditch.

Paul D. Wahpat was driving a 2008 Toyota Tacoma north on Olden Lane, about 2.5 miles southwest of Toppenish when it crossed into the oncoming lane and then into a gully, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.

The accident took place shortly before 6 a.m. 

Wahpat, whom the State Patrol said was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. Cause of the accident remains under investigation.
