YAKIMA, Wash. -- Two teen girls were hurt this afternoon when they crashed while riding a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle on private property in Terrace Heights.
The girls, 12 and 14, were not wearing helmets or other safety equipment, according to a news release from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.
“They’re going to be okay, possibly some broken noses and some cuts,” Sgt. Jeff Gillespie said in a phone interview, adding that one of the girls was from out of state.
The incident was reported about 12:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Warrior Road, three miles east of central Terrace Heights.
Sheriff’s officials say the 14-year-old girl was driving when she lost control of the ATV, went over a retaining wall and landed on a second retaining wall. The fall was about five feet.
Both girls were thrown off the second wall and fell about seven feet to the ground, authorities said.
They were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Authorities did not release their names because they are juveniles.
