YAKIMA, Wash. -- More than 200 children received Christmas gifts from Santa on Saturday thanks to donations raised by the Yakima chapter of the International Footprint Association.

Association members passed out the gifts at homes across the Upper Valley with help from Tieton and Yakima police, the Washington State Patrol and the Yakima County Sheriff's Office. A Santa rode along in each patrol car.

Gary McLaren, a Footprinter and retired reserve lieutenant with the sheriff's office, said between 50 and 60 families were helped by the annual project. Some also received food baskets.

The group raises about $3,000 to pay for the gifts and food. The money this year came from individual donations and a $1,500 grant from Legends Casino in Toppenish.

The Footprinter group is made up of current and former law enforcement officers and their civilian supporters.
