The road will be closed 15 miles west of Naches from 7 this evening until 6 a.m. Friday to protect motorists from falling rocks.
Westbound traffic will be required to turn around or wait at the Oak Creek elk feeding station at milepost 183. Local and recreational westbound traffic can drive five miles farther, into the Windy Point campground.
Eastbound traffic will be required to turn around or wait at the White Pass summit at milepost 151. Local and recreational eastbound traffic can drive as far as Rimrock Retreat at milepost 173.
Alternate routes include Interstate 90 and U.S. Highway 97 to Interstate 84 in Oregon.
The highway may be closed for a few more Monday or Thursday nights in January, transportation officials said.
