YAKIMA -- Rural Community Development Resources has received a $300,000 federal grant to provide training to Latino farmers in the Yakima Valley.

The Yakima group and Washington State University in Wenatchee are the two only groups in Washington to receive USDA grants.

Nationally, more than $14 million in grants was awarded last week to organizations that provide training to socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers.

This is interesting...I actually called and spoke to these people; it is not exclusively for Latinos. (Apparently, they are changing their name too.) Training and financial assistance are two items they provide. Nice gal who answered the phone too; she appeared shocked (Or maybe she thought that I was going to harass her?) that a Caucasian would call, but once she was over her initial surprise she was really helpful.

This money is for anyone interested in the rural development...not just for hispanics, so if you are interested i suggest you call them and get as much out of it that you can...it's federal money for the people, not for the person administering the funds.
