TOPPENISH, Wash.  — A Wapato woman was killed early Wednesday when her car crashed into a concrete barrier on U.S. Highway 97 north of Toppenish, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Jessica Whitefoot, 21, died at the scene near Branch Road.

Whitefoot was northbound about 1:30 a.m. when her Ford Crown Victoria hit the end of the concrete barrier that divides the opposing lanes between intersections in that area, troopers said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

She was not wearing a seat belt, according to a patrol news release. Investigators said they did not know whether intoxicants were involved.
The car was destroyed.
