YAKIMA, Wash. -- Jim Scoggins is taking back his seat on the Yakima school board today.

Scoggins, who beat incumbent Raymond Navarro Jr. in last month's general election, will be sworn in at the Yakima School District Board of Directors' meeting at 7 a.m.

His oath of office is among the first items on the agenda. The presentation is expected to last about five minutes.

Scoggins resigned from the board in 2006 to care for his late mother-in-law. The retired Yakima Herald-Republic sports editor served on the board from 2001 to 2006.

Navarro was appointed to the seat in 2006 and served the last three years. He received a standing ovation at his last board meeting last month.

The Yakima school board oversees policy for the largest school district in central Washington. With more than 14,500 students, the largest concentration of Latino students in the state of Washington and an operating budget of about $158 million, the district ranks 18th in size statewide.
