Meeting today on historical society
GRANGER -- Residents interested in forming a Granger Historical Society are being asked to attend a public meeting today at the community center.
At least people belonging to the town's centennial committee are interested in forming the historical society, but are looking for more support.
Details about forming the society will be discussed during a 1 p.m. meeting today at the Granger Community Center at 121 Sunnyside Ave.
'Nutracker' ballet on stage in Prosser
PROSSER -- The Prosser School of Ballet is ready for its annual tradition.
The students at the dance school will perform "The Nutcracker" this weekend at the Princess Theatre in Prosser.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets are $10 each, available at the door.
Make memorial ornaments with Hospice
SUNNYSIDE -- Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care volunteers want to help shoppers remember deceased loved ones during Christmas.
The volunteers will be at the Mid Valley Mall helping people make memorial Christmas ornaments.
They will work at a booth at a craft fair starting at noon Friday and continuing until 6 p.m. Sunday in the mall.
Cost is a suggested $7 donation to cover the price of the ornament, which participants get to keep. The outreach is not a fundraiser.
The nonprofit also will offer complementary paper doves on which participants can write names of loved ones to hang on a tree at the booth.

Online video greetings help food bank
ZILLAH -- Here's a fundraiser that combines sports, technology, Christmas greetings and a food bank.
Zillah High School alum Doug Davis is selling time during his online high school athletics broadcasts for video Christmas greetings. You record the video and send it to him, followed by a $25 check in the mail.
All proceeds go to the Zillah Food Bank, which will use the money to purchase toys for children in needy families.
Davis calls it the Christmas Sharing Project. He operates Zillahsports.com, a Web sit that broadcasts the high school's athletic events.

Steering wheel locks available for free
SUNNYSIDE -- Police here are giving away adjustable steering wheel locks to residents.
The city of Sunnyside has purchased, through the Washington Auto Theft Prevention Authority, steering wheel locks to give away.
The are available first-come, first-serve to any resident at the station, 401 Homer St. Residents may take one for every car they own, said Charlotte Hinderlider, police spokeswoman.
However, police had only about 30 left on Wednesday afternoon.
Expect to show proof of residency, such as a utility bill, rent receipt or mortgage receipt.
