YAKIMA, Wash. – An overloaded electrical wire is being blamed for heavily damaging a garage that was being used as a home in the 900 block of North Fourth Avenue.

 A large volume of smoke was pouring from the roof when the first of about 15 firefighters arrived about 4:40 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters said they had to search the building to confirm that no one was inside.

 The occupants were later found inside a car trying to stay warm, according to a news release issued by the Yakima Fire Department.

 After the fire had been brought under control, a hose on the roof flopped off and its heavy nozzle hit a firefighter on his shoulder and face, said battalion chief Rocky Willett.

Losses to the garage, which had been converted to a home, were estimated at $25,000. However, the attached home was saved, firefighters said.
