WAPATO, Wash. — A forum on bilingual education will be held Monday evening by the Wapato School District.
The school district has been under fire after scrapping its dual-language classes. It did so after saying that students in those classes lagged behind others in meeting state and federal standards for academic performance. But the district’s action has earned it the ire of some parents.
Monday’s forum will be at 6 p.m. at the Wapato Middle School, 505 Dove Lane.
It isn't a difficult concept to grasp - if you come in legally, you should have a chance, in order of entry - to apply for citizenship.
If you came here illegally, the advice is equally simple - GP HOME AND COME BACK LEGALLY!
LEGAL - WELCOME! ILLEGAL - CRIMINAL - GO HOME!
Report ViolationThis is interesting: My comment above was on a totally different article from yesterday afternoon as follows:
"NEW Information session on immigration planned
Yakima Herald-Republic (11/26/09)
YAKIMA, Wash. -- An information session on immigration will be held Dec. 5 at offices of the Catholic Diocese of Yakima at 5301 Tieton Drive.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is hosting the session from 1-3 p.m. to discuss the naturalization process and provide information about eligibility and residency requirements, application forms, fees, background security checks and processing times.
The session is part of a larger initiative to help immigrants better understand the naturalization process, including the content of a new naturalization test that started Oct. 1, and to become familiar with resources from the agency, according to a news release from the agency.

If you are confused as to the context of my comment on today's article, then you join me in that.
I guess we all mess up sometimes.
More to the pint of THIS article:
When people come here from another country, and don't speak English, they need to take responsibility for the education of their children on their own, until they can adequately understand the materials in ENGLISH. It is simply too much to DEMAND of us that we teach all our public school classes in a foreign language, while slowing the learning process for our citizen native speaking kids.
This seems to be a problem ONLY WITH SPANISH-SPEAKING FAMILIES, since I don't see any special teaching of public school classes in Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, French, Swedish, Norwegian, and Outer-Slobovian.
Now, some of you might see one of the reasons that we citizens are so upset and frustrated with out incompetent, out-of-touch government, for requiring classes be taught half in Spanish at taxpayer expense, to the detriment of our own children.
Nick: "This seems to be a problem ONLY WITH SPANISH-SPEAKING FAMILIES, since I don't see any special teaching of public school classes in Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, French, Swedish, Norwegian, and Outer-Slobovian."
It SEEMS that way Nick, but it's not only a problem for Spanish-speaking families like you suppose. There are several bilingual education programs setup in metropolitan areas across the country for native speakers of other languages besides Spanish. Russian and Mandarin seem to be the top ones. Haitian Creole is also part of Miami's bilingual education program. I believe I read somewhere that Arabic is included in Chicago.
Closer to home, there was an article in either the Seattle Times or Seattle PI sometime last year about a Russian program in one of Seattle's public schools.
Is it much more prevalent for Spanish to be the primary language of bilingual ed? Of course it is. Spanish-speaking immigrants far outnumber all others, so it makes sense. Until the country stops giving into demands, immigrants (both legal and illegal) will continue to ask for more programs and assistance in their native languages. It is what it is, whether we agree with it or not.
My take on bilingual education is it should only be implemented if ALL students can benefit from it. There's nothing wrong with knowing more than one language.
Hello,
As a former illegal immigrant and non-English speaker, I must honestly say that I agree with you. Your government's money (contributed by you) should not be used to support illegal immigration (please discern what I mean). However, the problem is not whether or not that money should be used for these purposes, the problem is that the US government knows of all these issues and does not do anything about it. Why? I don't know, and honestly, I don't care.
On the other hand, and as a former illegal immigrant, please let me tell you what I think about illegal immigration (I turned myself in to the USCIS for voluntary deportation last year); in fact, I am writing on this blog from my houuse in Mexico (I used to be a YV resident), that is why sometimes I read the Yakima Herald online.
1. Fisrt of all, I understand every of your comments and they all make sense, you all have very good points.
2. I will focus on Mexican immigrants, I will let others post their comments and speak for themselves, should they choose to. Anyways, why do we go to the US? The reasons are many. However, I will tell you this: for the average person who does not have any college education and has a maximum of a HS diploma (in Mexico you have to pay for your high school and books), it is a lot better for him/her to work in the US for the minimum wage than working in Mexico for the minimum wage. For example, I happen to know that the minimum wage in WA is exactly and/or about $8.55 USD per hour whereas in Mexico it varies from $52.00 to $56.00 pesos per day(depending on your state), that is $3.85 to $4.15 USD per day (the actual current exchange rate is $13.5 pesos for every $1.00 USD)! Furthermore, the federal law says that every Mexican must work 48 hours per week in order to be considered a full time employee. However, a Senator earns $270,000.00 pesos per month plus all expenses paid (food, gasoline, rent, free car for his own, etc...). This is messed up because these guys are the ones who get to sign this stupid laws. One more little thing, about 60 of the mexican work force works for te minimum wage!
3. PLEASE DO NOT GET ME WRONG, I KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT AND, WORSE YET, THAT YOU HAVE TO PICK UP THE SLACK OF THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT AND THE SUFFERING OF THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE MEXICAN PEOPLE. ALL OF THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT!!! I DO KNOW THIS. I AM JUST INFORMING YOU OF WHAT'S GOING ON AND TELLING WHY WE GO TO THE US TO WORK, AND SOME OF US TO STUDY; This without taking into consideration the Mexican babies who are taken to the U.S. by their parents.
4. Taxes in Mexico are 15% and will go up to 16% beginning January 1, 2010. Furthermore, the government has passed a law in which taxes will now be applied to food and medicine; there are also very bad news for drinkers and smokers as far as taxes are concerned. If this were not enough, effective January 1, 2010, the Mexican government will have access to the retirement money of people; what will happen if the government messes up (like always)? Simple, people will lose their retirement pensions (or whateever that money is called).
Below please find the answer to your question:
Why do Mexicans as a whole do nothing about all this crap?
Answer: Because they get killed for protesting! Furthermore, when a good politician appears and is determined to make big changes once in office, he also gets killed (there are many examples of this).
I know you are saying: "But this is not our fault!" Yes, I know that! I am just giving you the why's and the reasons why you get to see Mexicans in the US, be them illegal or otherwise (although the latter is not larger than what preceeds it!).
5. I furhter know you are asking: Who is writing all this crappy facts? Well, I am male on his mid 20's. I went to H.S. in the US. I first attended a HS in a state that was not WA and where I was rightfully discriminated against by caucasians for being different in color and language. Anyhow, that did not prevent me from taking advanced courses and maintain a high GPA as it was the case in Mexico, I finished my Junior year there with a 3.99 GPA while taking Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, And Art (the only class in which I earned an A minus as my lowest grade!). How did I do this without knowing English? Well, Math and science have an international language, as I suppose you are aware. Furthermore, I was not offered any ESL classes because that state did not have any bilingual programs (at least not in 2000).
I then had the opportunity to move to Washington State, where I also attended a high school in Yakima (not Davis). Anyhow, there I did benefit from ESL classes and took many AP classes, and at the time of graduation I graduated within the top 5% and with several PRIVATE scholarships lined up to enter the honors program in college (no federal and/or state money did I receive!). Anyways, in 2006 I had the privilege to graduate from WSU from my beautiful Pullman! Therefore, as you mentioned, I agree that it is not your responsibility to provide me with bilingual classes but that rather it is my responsibility to whatever it needed to do in order to succeed. I say this because before I went to the US, by myself -no parents and relatives, I knew what I wanted to do, become the President of Mexico, althoug this goal of mine changed later in time while I was living in the US.
Anyways, I want you know, that even though I entered the US as in illegal Mexican, I am now a legal American Citizen within my heart, but am also aware that this is not enough for me to reenter the country I do love, the U.S.!...................Here are the reasons you get to see many Maxicans in the US. However, a word of warning: the US Federal Law still prohibits discrimination (true, it also prohibis illigal immigration), thus: If you would see me, you would think that I am an American Citizen, what many considered me many times (they were surprised when I told them the truth) because that is what I look like and that is also how I behave! On the other hand, there are those who look like native Mexicans but who are U.S. Citizens. Please note that I am just making use of stereotipying!
Anyhow, I am now in Mexico, it has been a quite different, I no longer want to be the President of Mexico nor part of any branch of the MX government. I have been liberated by the truth that Jesus Christ spoke about. These truths are far more realistic and make more sense than the science classes I took in college. In fact, the truths uttered by JC provide the answers I need whereas what I learned in college furnishes me with more questions! Of course, I do appreciate the college education I received because thanks to it I have a job that gives me the means to provide for me and my family.
I now send you 13 greetings and 52 hugs my dear American Brothers and Sisters.
Sincerely,
Your Illegal Mexican U.S. Citizen.
P.S. I apologize for any grammar errors, I did not proofread this comment! (cooment, somebody will know what I mean with this).
Nick and American voice don't have much knowledge of the immigration system in place if they think its that simple. The grand majority of illegal aliens have tried to come in legally (its far more expensive, dangerous, and less beneficial to be an illegal immigrant)... but given that the US has drastically reduced the amount of legal immigration in the past few years, I dont know if thats possible.
If you want more legal immigration I suggest you lobby your senators and ask for the quota to be increased.
Oh please, Ogre
There otta be a law that someone with such a low IQ as you can't post here. We get the illegals because the stupid women's movement "EPIC" runs the whole town and they need illegals because normal people aren't going to put their kids in their idiotic torture chambers.
Your constant blathering that illegals are good for Yakima is getting old. I don't think you believe what you're saying I think you're just attracted to Nick somehow and arguing with him is the only way you can get his attention. Most people just skip over your "ogre ignoranimous" comments and move on to someone with an IQ above a primate.
What are you 12? Is reading crime statistics really that hard? Maybe when you're older and take college level statistics and understand microeconomics, you'll see how big of a fool you are if you think I'm wrong.
but hey, you're still the one that has yet to provide a single source! And if epic is the best thing you can come up with then we all know whose got the low IQ!
by the way, my IQ was well into genius when I took the MENSA test in 4th grade, what about you? I doubt you'd score well due to your problem with reading comprehension.
Ogre
Nobody is going to believe you with all that jazz about a super high IQ. It seems pitiful somehow for someone to say on a blog that they had a mensa test in fourth grade. So I guess that is how you figure all these illegals on welfare are good for Yakima. And there's no point in quoting facts or figures because you twist it into "racism". Everything's racism with you. While it's possible you may have a high IQ, I still feel that you are just attracted to Nick because I notice now that he's not blogging neither are you. Now, that 's not intellectual, that's emotional. And if you are trying to attract him, don't you think you should change your screen name.
