YAKIMA, WASH. -- The Washington State Mexican Fruit Growers Coalition donated 23 tons of fresh organic Granny Smith apples Monday to Northwest Harvest of Yakima.

"They'll last for a while," said Lisa Hall, warehouse manager for Northwest Harvest. "They have a good, long shelf life."

The donation, at the hunger-relief agency's distribution center on South Third Street, was similar to another last week at Northwest Harvest in Issaquah, Wash.

The Washington State Mexican Fruit Growers Coalition is a group of Latino fruit growers that together farm more than 4,000 acres in the state.
