STAFF AND NEWS SERVICE REPORTS

ELLENSBURG — A former Yakima man shown on videotape holding up a convenience store with his 9-year-old daughter at his side has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison.

A Kittitas County Superior Court jury convicted Robert Daniel Webb of Everett, Wash., in July of first-degree robbery and first-degree reckless endangerment.

The Daily Record of Ellensburg reported that Webb was sentenced to 94 months on Monday.

The case stems from a holdup at the Arco AM/PM store in Thorp on March 31. A widely publicized surveillance videotape showed the robber accompanied by a young girl and saying he needed money for his daughter. He got about $200.

Webb, 42, formerly lived in Yakima and was arrested in Yakima on April 4.

On the video, Webb was heard threatening to kill the clerk if he calls police, but he also described his desperation over losing his job and facing financial hardship as he tried to care for his daughter.

Two days after the robbery, Webb took the girl to the home of an acquaintance in Fortuna, Calif. That person called police while Webb was gone temporarily, and when Webb returned to the home, he saw police waiting and fled, eluding capture.

The girl's mother traveled to Fortuna and took her home to Everett the next day. Webb was arrested at the home of another acquaintance in Yakima.

Webb had a history of arrests in domestic violence incidents and a previous conviction for violating a restraining order.

The restraining order, filed in Yakima County in 2007, directed Webb, who said he has lived in Everett since October 2008, to seek alcohol treatment and anger management.
