SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – A Grandview woman was cited Friday after she failed to slow down for traffic on Interstate 82 and rear-ended another car.
Joella Armendariz, 55, was driving a 2000 Suzuki Esteem west on I-82 west of Sunnyside when she hit a 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by Daniel Derbawka, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.
Derbawka’s car came to rest in the median.
The Patrol did not indicate how fast Armendariz was driving at the time of the 4:42 p.m. accident.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts but were injured. Derbawka, 69, of Yakima, was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, and Armendariz was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital.
The State Patrol attributed the cause of the accident to inattention and said Armendariz was cited.
Neither Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital nor Sunnyside Community Hospital had any information on the condition of the two drivers.
What do you bet she was "distracted" by gabbing on her cell phone. Hope her ticket is an expensive one. What do you also want to bet she didn't have insurance to cover the poor bloke she hit.
