Tea partiers to rally in support of California farmers

Yakima Herald-Republic

ELLENSBURG -- The men behind Yakima's tea parties want to draw attention to a water dispute in California.

They will rally today in support of San Joaquin Valley farmers who oppose water restrictions enacted to protect a threatened fish called delta smelt.

Today's tea party begins at 12:30 p.m. at Horse Art Park, on Canyon and East Mountain View roads in Ellensburg.

Kirk Groenig, a Yakima Valley Tea Parties organizer, said two San Joaquin Valley farmers will speak at the event about how the federal restrictions affect their irrigation capabilities.

Last year, a federal agency changed the rules governing the management of the small fish. The new plans caused cutbacks of freshwater to farms and cities south of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta -- a decision that has been challenged in court.

"It was done to protect the wildlife," Groenig said. "But people are part of the environment, too."

Today's event is part of a national tour supported by various tea party groups across the country.

Let's see - The ObamaNation is warning about food looming shortages while we ship our ag products everywhere bu to markets here, it seems. Thanks to NAFTA, however, we might not need farmers anymore, since our NAFTA buddies are not importing our stuff per yhe agreement. They want us to buy from them, but the reciprocal part of NAFTA seems to have escaped their minds and policies.

So much for farmers. This listing of a fish that hardly anyone has heard of, let alone cares about, ids another example of where our government and the greeny-weenies put humans on the scale of priorities - pretty close to the bottom.

It is OK to kill human babies for the sake of convenience and a careless lack of birth control, while we save the salmon, polar bears, spotted owl, snail-darter, and countless other creatures that really contribute very little to our ow existence.

I find it somewhat ironic that the same group that protest illegal immigrationi is now gathering to support the main industry that employs them.

Other than that, its about time someone stood up for the california farmers.

Keep in mind that they're also the same ones against all that is non republican (healthcare reform and increased taxes).

I also think its funny that "tea partiers" has now become a new metaphor for "angry rednecks who don't follow politics closely and are usually blatantly and unjustly scared of change"... hmmm, well I guess "tea partier" is a lot easier to say.

@ogre:

Wrong, they follow politics very closely with Fox news/Rush/etc. Since that is the only media outlet to "get things right" AKA "telling us what we want to hear". I would watch Fox more if they weren't so dishonest, like recycling footage from past events to make current protests "look bigger".

I too had that same thought FYI.

Big business doesn't care what or who it runs over to get their profits. If they are really serious bout this, then they need to change the water usage rules for everyone (homeowners & farmers). No more set amount payment for water, despite how much your usage is.

Central valley cali is majority republican, go figure since teabaggers are interested.

@Johnny, thats what I meant. I mean Fox News admitted that the majority of their shows with higher ratings shouldn't be regarded as news. XD Even though those opinion shows (O rielly, glenn beck, hannity) all claim to be fair and balanced NEWS!

Where was this outcry when a trillion dollars were being spent on wars and unjust tax cuts for the rich?

FYI & Ogre - you are rendered clueless by your respective states of denial.

First, no one is against farmers who employ LEGAL workers.

Second, Healthcare reform as presented, is a giant step toward Socialism. It represents change alright, but not the kind we want to see in this country.

If you want everything for free, I suggest you move to China. There, your can work for a pittance, (like our illegals do here) and get everything else handed to you on a platter by the welfare state, (Wait! I am still talking about here).

By the way - I am NOT a Republican. Tea Partiers are not of any particular political party. It is a Bipartisan, (or would that be tripartisan or even non-partisan?) movement of people with a little common sense and a lot of sense of responsibility for those around us. That would be unlike the so-called "Progressive" Dimocrat movement of drones.

So my question is for Nick and the BAGGERS Have you made sure all of the farmers this rally is for are employing legal workers?

teabagger is a derogitory word for homosexual- real mature people.

BTW, many news outlets use old photo/video footage, and Fox admitted it. Funny how no one wants to admit to MSNBC or other new channels mistakes.

anyway, I have been following this issue, as Fox seems to be the only ones giving the story air time. Paul Rodriguez the famous comedian, who was an advid Obama supporter is helping rally that group in Cali. He is a Democrat, yet upset with Obama and the Democratic congressmen from that area. This isn't about politics, or illegal immigrants. This is about AMERICANS who can not survive so the libs can save a lil fish.

I would highly suggest that some of you educate yourselves a bit, might do you some good.

It is fact that the people organizing this tea party are the same people that rally against illegal immigration.

The vast majority of the farmers in central CA employ illegal immigrants.

I am I wrong?

My comment doesn't state anything that could be denied. Simply stating the irony of the event. Perhaps your the one in denial.

"teabagger is a derogitory word for homosexual- real mature people."

A teabagging is not just for homosexuals, straight perhaps even married couples do it to. I think you may be the one that needs to further your education.

I just call em as I see em. Now if Fox News is the only one giving this story any air time what does that tell you?

Anyone? Anyone?

Yes, We do support Farmers and families over 2" Smelt.
Our most policticans no common sense, very dishonest and defintely not trustworthy.
This is a prime example of no heart, no compassion for 150,000 American People living in Central Valley of CA. This same over reaching of environmental laws happened in Ohio and Rep Pelosi, B. Boxer and D. Feinstein voted to lift it.Why not now?
This is exactly why health care run by government isn't in the best interest of the American People, Their lack of compassion and honesty. They have abandoned Its Citizens.
(By the way, the name calling and racist comments by posters here just prove how hateful you really are!)

Obama Admin. has proven to be not open, not transparent and very markist. Look at the false jobs number from Recovery Act as an example, A very poor example.

Let me do what I do best... and prove that people have no idea what they're talking about...

-" First, no one is against farmers who employ LEGAL workers. "

So you only support 5-10% of the farmers?

-"Second, Healthcare reform as presented, is a giant step toward Socialism. It represents change alright, but not the kind we want to see in this country. "

I bet you have no idea what socialism means, do you? Are you also against public police forces, public schools, public roads, public prisons, social security...ect? All of those things are "socialist".

-"If you want everything for free, I suggest you move to China. There, your can work for a pittance, (like our illegals do here) and get everything else handed to you on a platter by the welfare state, (Wait! I am still talking about here). "

How is it that its so hard for people to understand taxes? No form of healthcare will ever be paid for free. Now if Nick is trully that ignorant and believes thats how the healthcare industry works, I strongly suggest he doesn't work in the medical field.

I'd also like to add that of all healthcare rankings in the world (primarily the world health organization and the United Nations)... the grand majority of the world's best healthcares are socialist! And guess what the US is usually never in the top 30 nations in that regard.

Are people like Nick so ignorant that they would rather have the poorer healthcare system?
