Authorities say a high-speed chase of a convicted felon that began in Royal City ended with four arrests before dawn Tuesday near Moxee.

It all began about 12:30 a.m. when a Grant County sheriff's deputy spotted a stolen 1990s Ford station wagon northbound on State Route 243 in Royal City, wrote Undersheriff John Turley of the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but it turned east on Lower Crab Creek, according to the release. Four males -- two teens and two adults -- were inside the station wagon.

As the chase continued onto State Route 24 through Mattawa, Washington State Patrol in Yakima County got involved, said state patrol Sgt. Ed McAvoy. Speeds reached 95 mph.

About 1:30 a.m., a state trooper placed spike strips on the state road about 16 miles east of Yakima, deflating the station wagon's tires, authorities said.

The wagon continued for another half mile before turning onto a dead-end road and colliding with a gate at a residence on Moody Road, Turley said. It was finally stopped when it collided head-on with a Grant County deputy's vehicle as it attempted to turn around.

Nobody was injured in the crash, Turley said.

A loaded weapon reported stolen from Newport, Ore., was found inside the vehicle, authorities said.

All four occupants were taken into custody on pending charges of vehicle theft and possession of a stolen weapon. The adults, ages 25 and 21, are known gang members in Mattawa, authorities said. No information was released on the juveniles.
