PROSSER -- A Prosser photographer has been honored for her shots of firefighters in the Yakima Valley.
Laurel Burk Sherman, owner of Rimrock Reflections Photography in Prosser, received first place in two of the six divisions and the People's Choice Award at the 2009 International Fire Photographers Association photo contest.
Burk Sherman received first place awards for her entries in the HAZMAT and training categories.
She also tied for the People's Choice award, chosen by her peers. The chosen photo shows Yakima firefighter Marcus Hudson standing near a ladder next to a blowing American flag during an injured worker rescue over the summer.
Burk Sherman is a contracted photographer for the Yakima Fire Department, the Grandview Fire Department and Yakima County Fire District No. 5.
The association is a worldwide group of fire and emergency photographers who work with departments to document incidents, investigations and training.
