SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Two people were in serious condition Sunday in a Seattle hospital after a pickup and van collided Saturday evening about 10 miles north of Sunnyside on State Route 241.

According to a news release from the Washington State Patrol, Juan M. Zuniga, 19, of Sunnyside was northbound when his 2003 Toyota pickup drifted into the shoulder. When he overcorrected, the vehicle crossed the center line, striking a southbound Mercury Villager.

The Mercury’s driver, Cristobal Rico Villarreal, 35, and a passenger, Ricarda Gomez Camacho, 33, both of Mattawa, suffered unspecified injuries and were airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

Their conditions were not available Sunday afternoon.

Neither Zuniga nor his passenger, Jennifer L. Smith, 17, of Sunnyside were injured, the State Patrol said.

Intoxicants are suspected in the crash, which destroyed both vehicles, according to the news release.

Anyone care to wager if either of these vehicles had minimum liability insurance? I'll bet $100.00 at least one of the two did not!

Remember that one of five vehicles on our states highways and roads does not have minimum liability insurance...and thus, these vehicles should not be driven!

What would you bet to say they were illegals as well, yet another issue we have in this state?

aamodtdb, do you sell insurance because you sure act like it the way you want to rule with the iron fist. I agree we have a problem with uninsured but your comments when families are dealing with deaths in there families is a lack of class. The more laws we have on enforcement of insurance the more the companies can raise there prices. Which if you sell insurance you would have no problem with. My prayers go out to the families, white , hispanic, or other, for their loss

To RedALice, the article has nothing to do with race or ethinic background....So why do you want to make this a race issue??? Once again it's "insecurities"...posting something as stupid as you did, only shows your ignorance and downright stupidity...when people have accidents you act as if you were perfect because your "White"...well no you are not, this was an accident and as much as i would love to wish the worst on you...I will not lower myself to your level...and pray to God that nothing bad ever happens to you.

sid515: I know that this article has nothing to do with race, that was not my point. An illegal alien doesn't necessarily mean that that person is Mexican, an illegal can be Asian, African, European, Filipino, Canadian, or Hispanic. The fact that you would automatically assume that I am white, which I am not, proves my point that the illegal Alien status is a problem in our area. Just because I can make a proven statement does not make me a racist, although the fact that you would jump to the conclusion that I am white with some sort of hatred for Mexicans is a biased statement on your part. Please take the time to ponder your own hatred before you subject others to you beliefs.

RedAlice,
I really don't and never care what race you are, the fact is that YOU stated the Illegals point. The article is NOT or has NOTHING to do with illegals what ever race they are...so why would YOU bring that up? I dont hate anybody it's just stupid when people always look for a scapegoat and that is exaclty what you are doing by changing the article to "illegals". Make a real statement next time, and don't just post your idiotic emotions, and stupid comments.
