East Valley attic fire controlled quickly

EAST VALLEY — East Valley fire crews put out an attic fire Sunday afternoon at a one-story ranch house before flames could cause much damage.

The fire was reported at 12:49 p.m. at 404 Terrace Hills Drive, said East Valley fire Chief George Spencer.

Firefighters found light smoke pushing from vents in the roof of the house when they arrived five minutes later. It took about 10 minutes to put out the flames that charred rafters and trusses in the roof, Spencer said.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported among the 20 or so firefighters who responded.

“These guys are really meticulous,” Spencer said. “They worked through a small attic hole, took the insulation out into the garage so we didn’t cause damage or dirty up the house.”

The fire appears to be electrical in nature, he added.
