PROSSER, Wash. - A 20-year-old Grandview woman was killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 82 near Prosser early Saturday morning when a pickup crossed into the wrong lane of traffic and hit her car.
Angelica Barajas was declared dead at the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Edward Castilleja, 49, of Prosser was eastbound on I-82 in a 2008 Chevrolet pickup when he drove onto the westbound lanes, striking the 2007 Chrysler 300 that Barajas was driving head-on, according to the state patrol. The crash took place about 3 a.m. at the Benton and Yakima county line.
An 11-year-old girl from Grandview traveling with Barajas was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital, where she was being treated for “non-life-threatening injuries,” according to a hospital spokesman.
Castilleja also was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital with injuries, the state patrol reported.
All three people were wearing seatbelts, according to the state patrol. Both vehicles were totaled.
State troopers say they believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident and an investigation is continuing.
