ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Central Washington University will celebrate the inauguration of its 14th president, James Gaudino, today with musical perfor-mances, a historical sympo-sium, a swearing-in ceremony and several other events.
Gaudino became Central's president on Jan. 1., following the retirement of Jerilyn McIntyre, who served as president for eight years. Gaudino previously worked at Kent State University, where he was founding dean of the College of Communication and Information.
A processional march is scheduled for about 1:45 p.m. from Central's Student Union and Recreation Center to McConnell Auditorium. The inaugural speech will begin about
2 p.m. Joining Gaudino on stage will be former CWU presidents James Brooks, James Pappas, Ivory Nelson and McIntyre.
During his presidency, Gaudino plans to focus on student success, the strengthening of shared governance systems, stronger communication with the community and maintaining a clear vision for the university. He said he also wants to improve data collection and transparency and enhance the university's technology.
