ON Magazine
Friday, Nov. 6
* It's First Friday again in downtown Yakima, which means entertainment, drink specials and art openings at a host of different businesses. In other words, this is the night to hit the town. Highlights include $1 margaritas at Tequila's, 1 W Yakima Ave.; new art at Red Gallery from 5 to 8 p.m., 30 N. Third St.; and a reception at The Lofts condos from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Check out www.downtownyakima.com for the complete rundown.
Saturday, Nov. 7
* Get your stompin' boots on; the rockingest, most-raucous punk-blues fusion band to hit the Northwest scene will take the stage at the Yakima Sports Center. Hillstomp, a Portland duo, combines garage sensibility and roots-blues rhythms to bring a juke-joint feel to its live shows.
Check them out for a $5 cover charge at 9 p.m. The Sports Center is at 214 E. Yakima Ave. For more information, call 509-453-4647 or visit www.yakimasportscenter.com.
Friday, Nov. 13
* Regional favorite Star Anna of Ellensburg brings her country-rock crooning back to Yakima, and this time it's for a good cause. Ten bucks and two cans of food gets you in to see Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs at the Yakima Valley Museum, 2105 Tieton Drive. Expect sad ballads mixed with twangy alt-country numbers. And expect to be impressed.
Proceeds go to Northwest Harvest. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.harvesttunes.com.
* Before heading off to the Star Anna show in the evening, indulge your sophisticated side with a performance from the Central Washington University Woodwind Quintet at the Seasons Performance Hall. The noon performance, part of the Seasons' Brown Bag Series, costs $5 at the door -- not a bad deal for musical virtuosity. Bring your own lunch.

Saturday, Nov. 14
East meets West at the Seasons Performance Hall on Saturday when accomplished jazz musicians from the United States and Japan team up as Jay Thomas and His East-West Alliance Sextet.
Thomas, a trumpet man who has played with notable groups including the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, leads this swinging-hot group as it returns to Yakima two years after first playing The Seasons. Their music — their very existence as a group, actually — not only cooks, it breaks cultural barriers.
With Kohama Yasuhiro on tenor sax, Atsuhi Ikeda on alto sax, Daisuke Kurata on drums, John Hansen on piano, Phil Sparks on bass and Thomas on trumpet, the group melds players of diverse backgrounds, simultaneously celebrating cultural differences and showcasing the universality of music.
Tickets are $18 for the 7:30 p.m. show. For more information, call 509-453-1888 or visit www.theseasonsyakima.com.
Sunday, Nov. 15
* Jeff Dunham's stand-up specials are legendary, his new show on Comedy Central is a hit, and now he's coming to Yakima. It's your chance to catch a comedy star at the peak of his game. Marvel at his ventriloquism and delight in his colorful characters right here at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Tickets are $43.50, available through www.ticketswest.com or by calling 800-325-7328.
