LAS VEGAS -- Former Miss Washington Elyse Umemoto will compete for another crown in Las Vegas this weekend.
Umemoto, Miss Washington 2007 and second runner-up to Miss America 2008, will be one of 15 women competing Saturday for the title of Miss Nevada USA.
The winner of the pageant will represent Nevada at Donald Trump's Miss USA 2010 pageant, to be held early next year in Las Vegas.
Umemoto, a Wapato native who now lives full time in Las Vegas, championed women's issues and empowerment during her reign as Miss Washington, also often spotlighting her multiracial background: American Indian, German, Latina and Japanese.
Earlier this year, she made public that she was a victim of domestic violence during her reign as Miss Washington.
These days, she's partnering with the Washington state Attorney General's Office to support a domestic violence bill that would enhance penalties for repeat abusers.
Saturday's pageant will be at the Horn Theater at the College of Southern Nevada Performing Arts Center in Las Vegas. The event begins at 7 p.m.
Good Luck young lady,,for what it's worth,ya got my vote.
Report Violationyeah, I wish her luck, but, something about this woman doesn't just add up. She had all these issues about photos of her partying and now she's trying to get back in the spotlight this year by saying she was a victim of domestic violence. It is impressive she is trying to work to pass this bill but, you know, now she's what living in Las Vegas and competing in another pageant? I think Trump has had enough of these women and their baggage.
Report Violationyup kick her out of pageants for life.
Report ViolationI don't know this woman personally, but I do have some experience with the pageant circuit, and I'd wager that a lot of pageant girls let loose on occasion. She had the misfortune of getting busted, but I really doubt that she's the only contestant that engages in this type of behavior. I don't think it's fair that this girl is getting thrown under the bus when she's not the only one-- she's simply one of the few who got caught. You who are without sin, cast the first stone...
