Veterans Day program in Granger

GRANGER -- Roosevelt Elementary School in Granger invites veterans and current members of the military to join students and staff for a Veterans Day program in their honor.

The event will be at 1 p.m. in the school's gymnasium on Friday.

The honor guard from the Sunnyside Veterans of Foreign Wars post will present the colors. Music teacher Tammy Leon will lead students in an array of patriotic songs. And teacher Kelly Martin-Carter will be in charge of the certificates of appreciation for veterans.

Veterans and service men and women who are interested in attending the event are asked to RSVP by calling 509-854-1420 or emailing carterk@gsd.wednet.edu.

 

Hospice will offer grief workshops

Lower Valley Hospice will hold workshops in Yakima and Sunnyside for those facing the upcoming holidays after the death of loved ones.

Called "Grief and the Holidays," the annual free workshops will provide tools on facing holidays that can bring back painful memories.

The workshops will be 6-7:30 p.m. today at United Christian Church, 317 S. 41st St., in Yakima; and 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sun Terrace Assisted Living, 907 Ida Belle, Sunnyside.

Youth outreach topic of Prosser meeting

PROSSER -- The Prosser Community Coalition will hold its monthly meeting today.

The coalition, formerly known as the Gang Task Force, will discuss youth outreach with a representative from the a church and youth volunteer service center in Bellevue.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at Prosser City Hall.

Class aids businesses with using Twitter

PROSSER -- Attention business owners.

Check out this marketing workshop described in 140 characters or less:

In the class, called "Welcome to the World of Twitter," Gustafson will cover how businesses can use the popular social networking site, which allows users to communicate in 140 character-or-less updates to connect with clients.

The class is sponsored by the Prosser Tourism Committee.

Workshop to deal with adolescent stress

WHITE SWAN -- Community youth advocates will hold a parent workshop about dealing with adolescent depression and stress Nov. 19 at White Swan High School.

The workshop will be presented by Celisa Hopkins, a field coordinator for the Youth Suicide Prevention Program of Washington State.

The seminar will be 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the White Swan High School library, 551 Signal Peak Road.

'A Christmas Carol' comes to Zillah High

ZILLAH -- Zillah High School's drama club, Z Center Stage, will perform "A Christmas Carol" starting next week.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at the Zillah High School auditorium.

Tickets cost $5 for standard and $7.50 premium seating.
