YAKIMA, Wash. -- In a last-minute push for votes, supporters held placards and waved to passing motorists this morning at the corner of 40th and Summitview avenues.

Among them, the husband of incumbent Yakima City Councilwoman Sonia Rodriquez.

“She’s at the City Council budget meeting, so I’m out here with the sign,” said Pat True.

Rodriquez is being challenged by local radio personality Dave Ettl.

Nearby, Anita Golladay held a sign supporting incumbent Yakima City Councilman Bill Lover, who faces former Yakima school superintendent Ben Soria.

"I figured we had one last day," Golladay said.

Nearly 37 percent of the Yakima County ballots mailed out for today’s general election have been returned so far, according to the county Auditor’s Office, which predicts turnout at 53 percent.

According to the YHR, Sonia was a single mom in Dec 2008. Has she married since then?

I was wondering that myself. The YHR was so busy digging up Dave Ettl's divorce records that they must have forgot to report that she has remarried since she took office. I think he's a criminal defense and personal injury lawyer. Congratulations Sonia Rodriguez......or is it Sonia True now?

Her marriage was listed in the YHR on 10/17/09 (http://www.yakima-herald.com/stories/print/24300).

I wonder why the the YHR didn't mention this in any of their political coverage?

More salable to the sympathy vote as a "single mom" makes good!

In any event, thanks for doing the research.

I would not put it past the YHR to intentionally keep the marriage quiet in order to help her win (not that her marriage would have much influence on how people vote). They have done this with other information about her i.e. her divorce records and the Democrat Party's campaign donation to her.

From an earlier post:

"Sonia Rodriguez: Other notable donors: $200, Washington State Democratic Central Committee"

Why didn't the YHR report this until now? The YHR has ran stories and editorials decrying the Republican Party's endorsement of Bill Lover:

"Yakima City Council is no place for partisan politics:
Political party affiliations -- whether Republican, Democratic or even Green Party -- have no place in the governance of a city like Yakima."
http://www.yakima-herald.com/stories/2009/08/14/yakima-city-council-is-no-place-for-partisan-politics

The mayor (who supports Sonia Rodriguez) even complained about it.

"Campaign's partisan tone dismays Yakima mayor:
"I'm so tired of partisan politics, and I did approach the central GOP committee (and) asked them not to endorse candidates" for Yakima City Council."
http://www.yakima-herald.com/stories/2009/07/30/07-31-09-mayor-dave

Commenters have pointed out many times over the last few months that Sonia Rodriguez received a financial contribution from the Washington State Democratic Central Committee. The YHR finally reports this relevant information, only after at least 25% of the votes have already been cast. This is yet another example of selective reporting by the liberal YHR.

Republican Party endorsing Bill Lover = BAD
Democratic Party contributing to Sonia Rodriguez = OK
Yakima Herald Republic = LIBERAL BIAS

wow, why have a comment forum if you are going to censor every comment?

Never mind, I see the posting guidelines were written for the pleasure of the moderator to remove whatever they did not like.
