PROSSER -- Prosser Memorial Hospital is warning area residents about a possible scam.
The family of a Prosser resident recently complained of a phone call from a man identifying himself as a member of Prosser Ambulance. He asked for personal information including name, date of birth, Social Security and medical history to be kept in a database in exchange for money. He claimed he would store the information in the possibility of the resident ever needs an ambulance.
Prosser Memorial Hospital operates an ambulance service called Emergency Medical Services. Neither the service nor the hospital asks for specific patient information over the phone, hospital officials said in a news release.
"Please do not give out personal information over the phone such as Social Security number and medical history. If you receive a call of this nature please gather information from the caller such as name and phone number and report it to the police," said Julie Petersen, Prosser Memorial Hospital administrator, in the release.
The resident did not fall for the alleged scam but hospital officials called the police, said Jason Jones, hospital spokesman.
