Teen recovering after gang-related shooting

Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA, Wash. -- An 18 year-old male was shot in a gang-related incident late Saturday, according to a Yakima Police Department news release.

About 10:10 p.m., police responded to a shooting report in the area of Powerhouse and Castlevale roads. A short time after the initial call, a gunshot victim arrived at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Police said the 18 year-old had been transported by private vehicle.

The teen said he was walking with a female companion in the area of 3600 Powerhouse Road when someone in a passing dark-colored sedan fired several shots at them. The man was struck once in the right leg. The female was not injured.

Officers located several bullet casings in the area and believe the incident was gang-related.

Maybe it is time to buy a bullet-proof vest, so I can go out to get the mail in my own front yard. I have already resorted to taking my pistol.

Of course, I'm probably safe, since most of these useless gangers have proven they can't hit their own butts if the gun went off in their back pocket. They only seem to hit anyone or anything by accident. Hopefully, it isn't some innocent bystander who just happens to be around. If memory serves, about as many bystanders have been shot as gangers, in these little battles.

Nick "they can't hit their own butts if the gun went off in their back pocket."

That reminded me of rocket scientist that shot himself in "the groin". Wish they all used the 12 guage birth control.

Another gang related shooting...."Surprise"...Yakima is no longer the 'Palm Springs of Yakima", it is more like the "Compton" (East L.A. of Washington. We really do need to change that sign!

Another thought, everyone has been trying to figure out what to do with the old Costco place. I say round up all the gangs, let em keep their weapons, heck, even give them more ammo, some food provisions..lock them all up in the building...no window, have enforcement at the doors. Leave em all in for a week, let them off each other. Who ever walks out after a week, arrest them for murder, and give em life. Gang solution solved!!

It's always the same story, 'just walking minding my own buisness when 2-3 guys who I've never seen before.....'. I also love the 'i don't know what happened or I forgot'. I love the look on their face when I tell that their illness must be contagious because I suddenly forgot my medical training and walk out.

I think i speak for everyone in the forum when I say "It's time our elected officials did something about this... instead of vacationing up in Olympia"....we the people are the ones suffering from this disease, the city council needs to do something as well and include our ever so tough prosecuting attorney. Gang violence and Domestic violence should be their top priority!!!! If someone disagrees, please let me know. Enough with the shootings, if they wanna shoot each other "how bout somewhere in the desert with no innocent people around" all they want is attention, how about round them up and forget about them. News stories with no names, that way they have no bragging rights.

I and my neighbor went to court last week to testify AGAINST the release on bail of two gangers who were arrested for shooting up our neighborhood. The judge listened to US instead of the sob-sister stories told by their lawyers requesting reduced or no bail for these poor unfortunate victims of society. One shooter's mom and dad and brother were there, all appearing to be gangers as well. In addition, his apparent girlfriend showed up, and when the judge was through explaining to him that she valued the safety of the community over his freedom, she was denying him any reduction in the $100k bail. With little hope of raising the money, he was taken back to jail. On his way out the door, he was strutting his stuff, big, brave, ganger bully, for his folks and his girl friend, with a smirk on his face. he was SO PROUD of himself.

When he lands in prison for his stupidity, I hope he remembers the last time his people saw him, being Mr. Macho. He will get plenty of time to brag to his peers about his bravery and big acts of honor and manhood.

THANK YOU JUDGE!

Damm Nick, i am starting to have some admiration for you... you know if more of us starting showing up at this court hearings maybe just maybe we could show this punks that they are better off in their cell... if their lawyers think that reducing bail or even asking for a reduction is gonna do good for the community, for this punkd to be out on the streets then maybe they (lawyers) should represent this punks for free...on my behalve thank you Judge for making a good decision.

Kudos to you Nick-we need more people willing to do this. Too bad that didn't happen with the most recent shooting, where the kid was out on a $10k bail and shot up Teo Lopez while on bail. These punks don't deserve bail when they try to kill and rob people.

once again, the owness is upon our legislaters, judges/prosecutors and judicial system. The cops can only do so much-so when the cops put them in jail-we need the others to make sure they stay there.

This is why I tend to comment here on behalf of Nick because he's out there literally for all of us. Every single week now, there is a shooting or killing that is related to Gangs in Yakima. Perhaps those should join in and start showing up at the court hearings and protest against these disgusting thugs.

Jay,

What is "owness"? Do you mean "onus"? Why don't you get some education? Go the night school or buy a dictionary!

"Go the night school or buy a dictionary!" Go the night school? If you're going to chide someone about their grammar, make sure yours is correct first. Pot, meet kettle.

I think much can be done if the police weren't so @#$% scared and actually got out of their cars and did either foot or bike patrols where gangs thrive. Areas with alot of crime need to have police substations on every other corner. Let the police presence be seen. As it is now..the police just seem to be cruising around...maybe picking up a prostitute to break the monotony. Get your well paid asses out of the car...get out on the street and start dealing with the issues instead of passing by at 35mph "waiting" for a call. PROACTIVE POLICING is what Yakima needs.

Because I was considered a "victim" in this case, the prosecutor sent me a file that asked for details of my losses and also advised me of my rights and that I had an advocate in the prosecutor's office if I wanted some guidance. I didn't take advantage of that - yet. However, the prosecutor also AUTOMATICALLY issued a "no contact order" to the perps regarding me and my neighbor. The judge renewed it in court.

In addition, I got a good look at the accused, and could recognize them instantly, should they show up in violation of the orders, (since when do gangers obey orders?). I also got a look at his family - the dad was giving me the evil eye - in case any of THEM decide to seek retribution for us objecting to bail for their kid. In short, know your potential enemy - it could save your life.

Basically, it isn't hard to find out when bail hearings are scheduled. Call them and do exactly what we did - go to the hearing, make your wishes known to the prosecutor assigned the case, and then watch the process. It is educational and interesting - and could certainly make a difference if more citizens went to the trouble to show the court they really care about their community.
