Jan Seago has been named a 2009 Purpose Prize fellow. She was one of 46 people nationwide selected for the honor, which is given to social entrepreneurs older than 60 who are using their experience and passion to take on society's biggest challenges.
Seago, a Yakima resident and program liaison of the Moscow, Idaho-based Pacific Northwest Regional Water Program, was named a fellow for her innovative use of video documentaries of Pacific Northwest watershed issues. Issues covered included stormwater management and capacity building for watershed-based groups working on environmental restoration to improve habitat for native salmon, steelhead, and bull trout protected by the Endangered Species Act.
As a fellow, Seago had the opportunity to attend the Summit on Innovation at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business' Center on Social Innovation.
Insurance
Pedro Romo, an agent for Farmers Insurance in Yakima, has completed the Career Agents Course at the University of Farmers, a training facility for Farmers Insurance in Agoura Hills, Calif. During the course, Romo learned how to understand the needs of Farmers' customers to help them choose the right insurance products.
Nonprofit
Catholic Charities Housing Services has named Bryan Ketcham as its new director. Ketcham comes to CCHS from the Office of Rural and Farmworker Housing in Yakima, where he served as director of housing policy. Ketcham holds bachelor of arts degrees in philosophy and American history, with minors in global studies, political science and English literature from Pacific Lutheran University and a master of arts degree in international relations from the University of Kent at Brussels (formerly Brussels School of International Studies).
Catholic Family & Child Service has named Kim Ferguson as the new regional director of the Child Care Resource and Referral Program. Ferguson, who has 30 years of early learning experience, has been a program manager for the program in Wenatchee for the past two years.
Medical
Infinity Rehab at Summitview Healthcare Center has added Diane Stoothoff to its staff. Stoothoff has worked as a physical therapist for 27 years, most recently at Willow Brook Terrace Nursing Center in Pendleton, Ore. Summitview Healthcare Center is located at the Living Care Retirement Community in Yakima.
Sheryl Fairchild of Peak Performance Sports & Spine has completed a two-day strength and conditioning course through the National Strength and Conditioning Association-Northwest Region. The course presented information on low back pain and core stabilization, functional movement screening and corrective exercises, ergogenic aids, functional aquatic training, and functional training for the shoulder/shoulder girdle.
