Arthur Borchardt
Arthur Ernest Walter Borchardt, 91, of Yakima died Oct. 25 in Yakima. He was born in Ramona, S.D., and attended Des Moines Still College of Osteopathy and Surgery in Iowa. He practiced medicine in Sunnyside from 1948 to 1984. He helped found and build Sunnyside General Hospital and Sunnyside Medical Center, and he founded Lower Valley Hospice.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel; two daughters, Judy Sinner of Selah and Kay Doggett of Bend, Ore.; a brother, Clayton Borchardt of Brookings, S.D.; and one grandson.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home.
Betty L. Oestreich
Betty Lou Oestreich, 80, of Kettle Falls, Wash., died Wednesday in Naches. She was born in Salem, Ore., and lived in Yakima, Long Beach, Wash., and Kettle Falls.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Pittner of Naches; two sisters, Mary Netling of Kettle Falls and Ann Mayhak of Yakima; a brother, William Dickens Jr. of Kettle Falls; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. A memorial Mass will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Cathedral, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at Shaw & Sons.
Lena R. Beierle
Lena R. Beierle, 76, of Yakima died Friday in Yakima. She was born in Neosho, Mo., and later worked for the Coat Factory in Moxee, Chinook Mobile Lodge and Trail Wagons.
Survivors include her husband, Herb Beierle; six children, Faye Maibee, Eugene Owens, Shirley Owens, David Owens, Pete Beierle and Bobbi Wilmoth; six siblings, Evelyn, Cora, Mary, George, Irene and Jim; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Tues-day at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by concluding services at West Hill Memorial Park.
Allen Fortier
Allen Fortier, 81, of Selah died Saturday in Yakima. He was raised in Yakima and attended Gonzaga University. He lived in Spokane and Moscow, Idaho, where he attended the University of Idaho Law School. He returned to Yakima and practiced law for 33 years with Roberts, Kirschenman and Fortier. He moved to Selah in 1970.
Survivors include his wife, Elinor Fortier of Selah; five children, Mary Brunelle and Marcia Lofland of Yakima, Mark Fortier of Olympia, Val Fortier of Pasco and Jon Fortier of Snohomish, Wash.; a brother, Phillip Fortier of Seattle; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory in Yakima.
