People can learn about the history of wine grapes in Washington, canopy management and plant nutrition through the Hispanic Employee Education Program, "Introduction to Viticulture."
The 19-credit certificate program runs Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 6 through March 26. The cost is $250, which includes the cost of a textbook/binder, field trips and hands-on experience in a vineyard.
The course is offered in partnership with Wenatchee Valley College and is sponsored by the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers. Registration is running through WVC, which is providing scholarships to cover the remaining cost of registration. The cost would normally total more than $1,100.
Courses will be taught in English and Spanish and will be taught at the Yakima Valley Community College satellite campus in Grandview.
