NACHES, Wash. -- Relatives are organizing a fundraiser for a longtime Naches school employee who is fighting leukemia.

Sandy Morris, 55, is scheduled to undergo a bone marrow transplant Thursday, said her stepdaughter, Leslie Morris.

Morris has worked for the Naches Valley School District for 15 years, first as a bus driver and for the past two years as a special education secretary.

She was diagnosed with leukemia in January. The cancer was believed to be in remission after treatment this summer at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, but then doctors decided that the transplant was required, Leslie Morris said.

Sandy Morris is being treated at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. She is scheduled to return home in January.

Leslie Morris is seeking volunteers for a spaghetti feed and auction from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 13 at Naches Valley Middle School, 32 Shafer Ave. She can be reached at 509-833-2603.
