YAKIMA, Wash. -- Authorities on Thursday recaptured the inmate who walked away from the Yakima County jail grounds earlier this month.
Stephen Paul Boren, 25, was discovered at noon hiding in the kitchen of a residence for people recovering for substance abuse in the 900 block of East Arlington Avenue, according to a news release from the jail.
Boren had been more than halfway through a six-month sentence for identity theft, stolen property and driving convictions when he walked away Oct. 9 while doing unsupervised maintenance work outside the jail and courthouse, authorities said.
Until his escape, Boren had not been a management problem for the jail, according to the release.
Officers from the Yakima Violent Crimes Task Force -- which had been on the lookout for Boren -- arrested Boren about noon Thursday without further incident, authorities said.
He was returned to jail, where he will finish his current sentence and is expected to face an escape charge, according to the release.
