ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- A man accused of choking his sister was arrested Saturday night after leading officers on a short chase, Ellensburg police say.

Officers responded about 11:10 p.m. to the 400 block of West 11th Avenue, where the 50-year-old suspect had reportedly choked his 46-year-old sister, Capt. Dan Hansberry said in a news release.

The suspect drove off when officers arrived, so they pursued him for several miles along Dry Creek and Faust roads, northwest of Ellensburg, Hansberry said. The pursuit ended after a Kittitas County sheriff’s deputy laid out a spike strip.

After resisting arrest, the man was eventually taken into custody when a less-lethal beanbag round was fired from a shotgun, Hansberry said.

During the chase, he tossed a .22-caliber handgun from the vehicle, authorities said. The pistol was recovered.

He was booked into the county jail on charges related to domestic violence, eluding, driving under the influence and illegal firearm possession.
