MATTAWA, Wash. -- Grant County sheriff’s deputies say they are seeking a man who shot his roommate over the weekend outside of Mattawa.
Suspect Efrain Vargas Rios, about 30, stole money and a car from another roommate after the shooting, which caused a serious leg injury, Undersheriff John Turley said in a news release issued this afternoon.
The incident was reported about 9:15 p.m. Saturday at the men’s trailer in the 21000 block of Road 24.7 SW, about two miles southwest of Mattawa.
The victims told deputies that the suspect had been acting abnormally that evening, Turley said. The two men, 28 and 39 years old, were in the living room of the trailer when the suspect entered the room with a shotgun.
The injured man had turned to leave when he was shot. The suspect then demanded cash and the keys to a Dodge Intrepid from the other man, who complied.
The suspect then left. His whereabouts are unknown, Turley said.
The sheriff’s office is asking for tips to help locate Vargas Rios. Detective Ryan Rectenwald may be reached at 509-754-201, ext. 468.
