Fire hits rural Selah home

SELAH, Wash. — An electrical short caused a two-alarm house fire today in the Wenas Valley area.

The fire in the 1200 block of Gibson Road was reported shortly after 9 a.m.

Selah Fire Lt. Mike Johnston said the cause was an electrical short in the attic that caused hot spots throughout the wiring of the house and in the insulation.

Four hours after the call, firefighters were still on scene pulling insulation and wiring.

“The problem is just getting access up into the attic,” said Johnston, who estimated damage at more than $10,000.

No injuries were reported. The occupants, a family of four, made their own living arrangements with friends or relatives, Johnston said.

Units from Yakima, Gleed and the Yakima Training Center also responded to the call.
