YAKIMA, Wash. -- Haven't yet made time to winter-proof your home? You better get started because it's going to get cold.
Thanks to an Arctic air mass moving south from Canada, temperatures in Yakima are expected to reach record overnight lows today and Saturday, forecasters say.
Tonight, temperatures could drop to around 23 degrees, said Ann Adams, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Pendleton, Ore.
And it should get even a few degrees colder on Saturday night, she added.
That's more than 10 degrees colder than what's normal this time of year. Overnight lows are typically around 34 degrees.
And the record overnight lows for Saturday and Sunday are 26 and 24 degrees, set in 1924 and 1990, respectively, Adams said. The coldest time is usually during the early morning hours, between 3 a.m. and sunrise.
Daytime temperatures should be in the mid-60s today, then drop into the upper 50s throughout the weekend.
The frigid weather will ease up a bit by Tuesday with warmer temperature and some rain, Adams said.
