CLE ELUM, Wash. — A driver who hit another vehicle after failing to stop at an intersection about seven miles east of Cle Elum injured herself and two other people Saturday, authorities said. Drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash.
The accident happened about 3:50 p.m. Saturday at the Teanaway Road and State Route 970 intersection, according to a news release from Washington State Patrol.
Authorities say Caroll Herndon, a 58-year-old from Camano Island, Wash., was southbound on Teanaway Road in her 1970 Volkswagen when she failed to stop at the State Road 970 crossing.
At the crossing she hit a 2005 Dodge Ram heading west on SR-970, according to the release.
The truck’s driver, 43-year-old Susanne M. Grams of Cashmere, was uninjured. Her passenger, 27-year-old Mike E. Brooke of Peshastin, suffered a sore neck but was not hospitalized, authorities said.
Herndon is expected to face charges for failing to yield and inattention.
She was taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center for injuries to her neck, back, ribs and right arm. Her passenger, 55-year-old Elrene D. Zwiefelhofer of Sammamish, Wash., also was taken to Harboview for injuries to her tibia, fibula and abdomen.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
