ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- A crash on Interstate 90 on Sunday night near Ellensburg sent five people to the hospital, including two girls, ages 11 and 13.
The driver who caused the crash was intoxicated and was charged with vehicular assault, according to Washington State Patrol.
The collision reduced traffic to one lane at milepost 106, contributing to existing delays throughout the evening because of a motorhome fire near Easton, according to state highway officials.
The Washington State Patrol said David Clark, 44, of Toppenish was driving east about 8:20 p.m. when his 1996 Dodge Neon veered across the median into the westbound lane, striking Leonid and Lyubov Kulchitskiy, both 48, and the two minor children, all of Marysville, Wash. Leonid Kluchitskiy was driving a 2006 Honda Accord.
All five people were taken to Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. Clark and Leonid Kluchitskiy suffered bruises. Lyubov Kluchitskiy suffered internal injuries and facial lacerations. One of the girls had a head injury and the other had bruises.
