ELLENSBURG, Wash. — An 85-year-old Federal Way, Wash., woman reported overdue while picking huckleberries near Snoqualmie Pass was found safe Thursday evening, authorities said.
Bernice “Nicki” Lettenmaier walked out on her own after being located by a search dog team about 6:30 p.m., Cmdr. Bob Gubser of the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release issued late Thursday.
She was about a quarter-mile from where she was last seen, Gubser said.
Lettenmaier and her husband, Patrick, were in the Lost Lake area to pick huckleberries when they separated about 11:30 a.m. They planned to meet back at their vehicle at noon.
When she didn’t return, Patrick Lettenmaier searched nearby and then left to reach an area where his cell phone would work so he could call authorities, Gubser said.
